Visit Woods
A film drawn from a series of eight films for the Woodlands Trust that explore why visting woods can be good for local people. Filming took place over two years in and around Easington, County Durham.
Issues addressed include cost, personal safety, transport, physical barriers, psychological barriers, lack of time / low priority, facilities, finding people to go with and lack of information. Watch film here

Our Food_new dialogues
Our Food is a initiative that aims to give people more say in the future of food and farming by becoming involved in collaborative research. a range of different people to explored their food knowledge and Open events across the North East brought people together to discuss particular concerns alongside sharing accounts of how family meals have changed since the 2nd WW. Researchers from different backgrounds could explore food issues in new ways and engage with people in new dialogues. Watch film here

Remaking
Society
Remaking Society is a collaboration between grassroot-based artists and researchers, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council, looking at how creativity can help rebuild communities.
A 40 minute film features the work of Swingbridge Media and Hugh Kelly, with films from 1980 to 2013 highlighting issues of poverty and regeneration in the communities of Scotswood, Meadowell and the Old Fold in East Gateshead.

This film explores the urban streetscape of Newcastle upon Tyne and asks how ‘friendly’ and accessible it is for older people.

Newcastle Science City
Newcastle Science City Community Engagement project commissioned us to work with local people to research and plan their own films that explored what science means to them. We worked with Newcastle Council for Voluntary service and twenty three volunteers over a year and produced ten short films.
Subjects included Renewable houses, beating cancer through exercise, complex technology, older people and the urban environment, & future energy generation etc. Watch Community Science film here

Dave Anderson commissioned this film to commemorate his year as President of Unison. He asked us to explore the role of trade unions members in regenerating local communities.
Below are a series of photographs showing the demolition of the Lindsay shaft, Hetton-le-Hole.

The autumn riots of 1991 attracted the world's attention to the problems of estates like the Meadowell. Nevertheless, despite tremendous odds, more and more residents are determined to transform their estate through their own efforts and initiatives.
